A man jailed for 12 months for attending a private cross-dressing party has lost his final appeal.
The Bahraini, aged 21, was found guilty of inciting debauchery and public indecency by the Lower Criminal Court, which jailed him for two years in June.
He lodged an appeal against his conviction at the High Criminal Appeals Court, which halved his sentence in July.
A final appeal at the Cassation Court was dismissed yesterday.
The defendant was among several people arrested for wearing makeup and female clothing at a private party in an apartment in Manama in April, according to court documents.
Authorities had received a tip-off from a secret source, which led to the arrest of the defendants, who were initially jailed for two years each.
“The defendants wore makeup and women’s clothing and met in an apartment, where they took part in an illegal party.
“They were found guilty of the charges due to sufficient evidence against them.”
The defendant’s lawyer had earlier claimed that his client was a makeup artist who provided his service to participants at the masquerade ball.
“He (the defendant) was at the party because he is a makeup artist, and was not part of the cross-dressing event,” his lawyers told judges.
