Philippine's authorities have charged 10 cabin crew members with smuggling after they attempted to bring in 27kg onions, 10.5kg lemons, and 1kg strawberries and blueberries to the country.
On January 10, Philippine Airlines staff arrived from Dubai (PR 659) and Riyadh (PR 655).
According to the report, the items were discovered in suitcases at Manila's international airport's Terminal 1.
The items were not declared on the customs baggage declaration form, nor did they have any import permit required for bringing such goods. According to the Customs officers, the goods were confiscated because they failed to provide the documents.
After being detained, one of the cabin crew asks if he can destroy the goods himself. He then proceeds to stomp on the onions and the fruit in plain view of the customs officials. Soon after the rest of the crew joined in on destroying the goods.
"The other crew members started to stomp on the goods, sprayed disinfectant, and poked the goods with their chopsticks and pens also in public view," the customs report stated.
