Elia Dagani of Switzeland claimed the World Fencing Junior Championship singles title after defeating compatriot Gabriel Bonferroni 15-8 in the final at Khalifa Sports City Hall in Isa Town last night.
The third place went to Simon Labin and Fredrick Weber.
The World Fencing Junior Championship was opened yesterday by Royal Equestrian and Horse Racing Association President Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa on behalf of the Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee President Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Shaikh Faisal honoured the winners of the singles competition at the end of the day.
The championship will conclude today with the teams competitions starting at 10am at the same venue. The final will be held at 5pm followed by the presentation ceremony.
In a statement, Shaikh Nasser praised the support of His Majesty King Hamad to the field of sports in the country, which had helped in hosting such international championships. Shaikh Nasser also praised the efforts of Bahrain Fencing Association and the organising committees.
