A MULTI-MILLION-DINAR housing project in Muharraq is nearing completion.
Housing and Urban Planning Minister Amna Al Romaihi said 85 per cent of housing units in the BD283.5m East Hidd project and 97pc of related infrastructure work have been completed.
She was responding to a question by Parliament Speaker Ahmed Al Musallam, who is also Hidd area MP.
Ms Al Romaihi asserted that no major faults or incidents were reported during the construction of houses, except for manpower errors, which were immediately rectified before units were handed over to citizens.
“A total of 2,402 homes in the East Hidd project have been distributed so far,” the minister said in writing, adding that 1,709 units were still under construction and 816 under the tendering process.
“The town will feature schools, kindergartens, a health centre, a security office, fish market, post offices, phone masts, electricity and water substations, and four landmark monuments amongst other community projects,” she added.
“There will also be a specialised 12-km cycling track, 58 play areas for children, 109 open spaces and four seafronts as part of the scheme. At least 25pc of the total town area will be green.”
Meanwhile, Ms Al Romaihi said 849 houses, 20 plots and 52 apartments have been distributed in Muharraq Governorate constituency three since 2002. She was responding to a question by MP Mohammed Al Olaiwi on housing services for his area residents.
In another response to a question on services for Southern Governorate constituency six, by area MP Najeeb Al Kuwari, Ms Al Romaihi said 800 houses, 68 plots and 76 apartments have been handed over since 2002.
A total of 594 homes, 10 plots and 21 apartments have been handed over in Southern Governorate constituency nine, she added.
MPs are set to hold open debates on two topics in the presence of the concerned ministers, following last week’s unanimous approval. They will review the high unemployment rate amongst students from physical education university besides private and public sector wages for Bahrainis. MPs have been calling on the government to raise wages of citizens to help them cope with the rising cost of living.
