A MAN, who tried to leave Bahrain using a fake passport, is facing criminal forgery charges.
The 38-year-old Chinese is accused of trying to dupe a public servant by providing false identification at Bahrain International Airport (BIA).
Court documents revealed that the defendant was acting suspicious while handing over his passport to a border control officer at BIA on June 17.
“I was on duty when the defendant approached me to finalise the departure procedures, and he looked nervous,” said the officer in his statement to prosecutors.
“He kept looking in all directions as he handed the passport which had another person’s data and a picture that looked printed and fake.
“Upon scanning the passport, it was flagged on the Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs system and that the picture on the system was different than the one on the passport.
“The picture also didn’t match the individual who was submitting the passport so he was arrested.”
The trial was adjourned to Wednesday to bring in the defendant from custody.
