FOOTBALL – BAHRAIN scored their first point of the Gulf Cup for Veteran Players 2026 last night following a goalless draw with their counterparts from the UAE at Hamad Bin Khalifa Stadium in Doha, Qatar.
The kingdom’s representatives came away with a share of the spoils which followed their opening 0-2 Group B loss against the host Qataris in the competition’s opening stage.
Yesterday’s result kept the Bahrainis’ slim hopes of advancing to the tournament’s semi-finals alive. They have one game remaining in the preliminary round, scheduled for tomorrow against Yemen at 7pm at Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Stadium.
Qatar beat Yemen 2-0 in yesterday’s other divisional clash to secure their berth in the last four.
This year’s tournament features the most prominent football stars and legends, all aged 40 and above, from the eight member nations of the Gulf Football Federation. Matches are being played over two halves, with each match lasting 40 minutes. At the end of the preliminaries, the top two from each pool will qualify for the semi-finals, scheduled for Tuesday. The final will then be held on Thursday at Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Stadium.
Unlimited substitutions are allowed per game, and if any knockout contest ends in a draw after 40 minutes, penalty kicks will be used immediately to determine the victor.
Group A is composed of Saudi, Kuwait, Oman and Iraq.
