MANY families and friends are beating the summer heat by spending their sunny days splashing about in swimming pools.
With pool safety being a constant concern across the kingdom, particularly during this season, the Interior Ministry has shared an animated video on its Instagram account to remind parents and youngsters to be mindful and alert in the process of having fun in the sun.
Swimming pool safety tips include:
l Make sure that the swimming pool is licensed, and that its surroundings, in terms of tiles, as well as the water and filters, are clean and hygienic.
l Ensure that the pool features safety railings and stairs, all the necessary rescue equipment including a lifebuoy and first-aid kit.
l Keep a close eye on children at all times, avoid rough play around the pool area and do not swim alone.
l Stay out of the pool if you feel tired, or sense your body temperature rising or dropping. Make sure all electrical sockets and wirings are out of reach and safe. Do not handle when wet. Also ensure there are fire extinguishers nearby.
l Avoid swimming at night if there is no proper lighting.
l Do not eat while swimming to avoid the possibility of choking.
l Save the address of the swimming pool on your phone to share with emergency services if need be.
