HUNDREDS of Indians living in Bahrain celebrated their country’s 77th Independence Day yesterday with a series of activities.
Ambassador-designate Vinod Jacob unfurled the Indian flag during a ceremony held at the embassy complex in Seef District, attended by more than 1,300 members of the diaspora.
A message from Indian President Droupadi Murmu was read out at the ceremony.
The diplomat also met Indian Navy officials from INS Visakhapatnam and INS Deepak who are in Bahrain until tomorrow to share their experiences and discuss aspects of maritime operations with the Royal Bahrain Naval Force.
The two warships held a flag-raising ceremony on board as they are docked at the Mina Salman port.
Mr Jacob also met Indian futsal team visiting Bahrain and community members at the event, which featured patriotic songs by students.
Meanwhile, several events were held by schools and community associations yesterday.
The Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS) held a flag-raising ceremony at its premises in Segaiya, during which the tricolour was unfurled by general secretary Varghese Karakkal and other members.
The Indian Club in Manama also held a similar ceremony that was led by president K M Cherian and attended by members.
