THE Muharraq Municipality has been praised for planting more than 13,000 trees since the start of the year.
Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Ministry Under-Secretary Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa made the remarks as he inspected the afforestation project in the governorate.
He said the municipality planted 24,000 trees last year, with a total of 37,000 trees so far.
The ministry continues to contribute to the national afforestation strategy and sustainable development goals in Bahrain, Shaikh Mohammed said.
He affirmed that the ministry has developed plans to increase afforestation along the main streets.
He inspected the nurseries in Muharraq Governorate and reviewed the municipality’s plan to develop its nurseries and increase seedling production, as well as projects to expand the use of treated water for crop irrigation.
