A TOTAL of 563,723 expatriates have been issued work permits over the past year, Labour Minister Jameel Humaidan said.
He told MPs in writing that 3,891 expat workers were found in violation between December 12, 2022 and October this year.
Mr Humaidan, who is also Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) board chairman, added that the violators were deported in co-ordination with the Interior Ministry.
“Following inspections, the LMRA and other concerned authorities noted 2,076 violations by employers and 3,634 by expatriate workers, while 1,900 cases were referred to the Public Prosecution,” the minister said.
“The LMRA is working effortlessly to limit work irregularities committed by employers and expatriates. Rules are being updated regularly to tackle all issues.
“We have to note that the LMRA collects fees ranging from BD464 to BD879 annually, including health insurance, per worker depending on the work permit or the establishment.”
The minister was responding to a question by MP Jalal Kadhim on the number of work permits granted over the year and action taken against violators.
Meanwhile, Works Minister Ibrahim Al Hawaj said the sewage network coverage for the Capital Governorate had reached 94.20pc while it was 95.13pc in constituency seven.
He was responding to a question on new infrastructure services in constituency seven by Parliament’s financial and economic affairs committee chairwoman and area MP Zainab Abdulamir.
“Out of five residential blocks, three are completely connected with the sewage network and two partially,” he added.
“There are plans to expand and carry out maintenance on existing roads with works commencing early next year. We also have plans to introduce rain drainage within internal roads in the constituency.”
