A business owner has been found guilty of defrauding Tamkeen and abusing the National Employment Programme.
He was sentenced to six months in jail yesterday by the Lower Criminal Court, which also fined him BD500.
His two female co-defendants were acquitted of all charges.
The man enlisted his co-defendants to sign a fake contract and registered them under the Tamkeen wage subsidy programme, after which he reportedly had them send the money back to him.
The Public Prosecution said fake employment is a dangerous practice that is punishable by law.
“The Prosecution is counting on people’s awareness about such behaviours that break the law and violate the provisions upon which wage subsidies are issued,” it added in a statement.
