TRIBUTES have been paid to Bahraini women who have played a pioneering role in the country’s landmark development.
Several events were held across the country to salute women achievers on the eve of Bahraini Women’s Day, observed annually today.
This year’s celebrations are being held under the slogan, ‘Women in Comprehensive Development’.
The Shura Council organised a celebration which was attended by chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh and other members, besides representatives from the Supreme Council for Women (SCW).
Shura secretary general Kareema Al Abbasi praised the pivotal role of His Majesty King Hamad and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in encouraging and empowering women in the country to take up new challenges.
“The prosperity and distinguished position enjoyed by Bahraini women reflects the leadership’s enlightened vision and national efforts,” Ms Al Abbasi said in a statement.
“Bahraini Women’s Day represents a national occasion to honour the women of the country for their invaluable efforts and dedication,” she added.
Other Shura members said women have proven their worth, having excelled in political, economic, social, and cultural fields.
They extended their sincere thanks to His Majesty, HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister and Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of the King and SCW president.
Parliament secretary-general Rashid Bunajma highlighted women’s growing role on the international stage.
“Bahraini women have strengthened the kingdom’s position as one of the world’s leaders in women empowerment,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Social Development Ministry held a number of activities to commemorate the day aimed at appreciating women for their loyalty, generosity, and tireless efforts in building the nation.
Minister Osama Al Asfoor confirmed his appreciation for every Bahraini woman at the event.
“Bahraini women are a source of pride for the nation,” he said.
“It is important to continue supporting them to ensure they all reach their potential.”
Works Minister Ibrahim Al Hawaj confirmed that Bahraini women have proven their ability and competence to work with all efficiency in various positions.
“The ministry is proud to co-ordinate with the SCW to present initiatives and projects that contribute to consolidating the role of Bahraini women in the development process,” he said.
Jaffari Waqf Directorate also held a ceremony in the presence of chairman Yousef Al Saleh.
“Every year, we love to show our pride and appreciation towards the pioneering women in the country,” Mr Al Saleh said.
“We are proud of the achievements that Bahraini women have made at all levels in various fields.”
Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA) chief executive Mohammed Al Qaed said women in iGA hold 53 per cent of leadership positions.
“Six women hold director roles, 23 chief level roles, 25 are heads of units or supervisors while 75 are senior specialists,” he said, asserting that the role of women in supporting and implementing iGA’s projects “cannot be underestimated”.
Celebrations were held across the country, with the Capital Governorate saluting the achievements of its female employees.
The Southern Governorate organised a photo gallery to honour women achievers. The Northern Governorate held a special session while Muharraq honoured some of the women who helped in the country’s development.
Parliamentarians including Mariam Al Dhaen praised women for their role in making Bahrain what it is today.
“This day represents an important opportunity to highlight the role of Bahraini women and their efforts in the country’s development,” she said.
“The achievements they have accomplished in fields such as politics is a representation of Bahraini society, and their acknowledgement of the importance of having women in leadership positions.”
