MORE than 30 alumni of the Indian School Bahrain (ISB) have flown in from far and wide to revel in reunion celebrations held in the kingdom over the weekend.
A group of 50 graduates from the Year 1995 kicked off their festive fun with a delightful dinner at the British Club Bahrain in Manama last night in a bid to commemorate three decades of friendship.
The two-day nostalgic spectacular will also feature a breakfast and suq tour of Manama today and the reunion party later tonight.
The ISB 1995 Batch Reunion has been organised by its former students, Mala Javeri, Sheeba Rajam, Natasha Mistry, Kunal Damle, Vijay Gandhi and Ajay Mathews, who all work in the financial services industry.
While Ms Javeri, Mr Damle and Mr Gandhi are residents of Bahrain, Ms Rajam is set to fly in from India, Ms Mistry from Canada and Mr Mathews from the UAE.
“We are very excited for this reunion,” Ms Javeri told the GDN.
“It was supposed to be held in 2020 to mark 25 years, but had to be delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic,” she added.
“There are a total of 50 people attending, of which 30 are flying in from outside Bahrain. We have people coming in from the US, Canada, India and the rest of GCC as well as from the Far East.
“Some of us haven’t seen each other in 28 years, and so we are all looking forward to the gathering.”
Mr Gandhi is thrilled to have been a part of the organising committee as it allowed him to revisit the past, reconnect with his old classmates and share cherished memories.
“I am super excited to connect with old friends and batch mates who I had lost touch with over the years,” he said.
“Meeting so many of them once again after more than 25 years is going to be a memorable experience.”
Meanwhile, Mr Damle couldn’t believe how they were able to successfully rally so many ISB graduates for the gathering.
“Getting more than 45 students to Bahrain has been such a great experience that it cannot be explained in words,” said Mr Damle.
“We are elated to have the event here in Bahrain ... our home away from home.”
As the friends reminisce their golden school years, they also took the time to pay tribute to their loved ones whom they have lost over the years.
“During our get-together, we are also reminded of our classmates who are no longer with us,” said Ms Rajam.
“We miss the very vibrant Dhara Kataria, Veena Pillai and Leroy Colaco who brought in so much energy into each of our lives.”
The former classmates and friends are looking forward to continuing their celebrations at a Reunion Party tonight at the Olive Hotel, Juffair.
