A POPULAR cultural festival, set to begin today, will feature a range of initiatives to hone youngsters’ talents and encourage them to promote Bahrain’s rich culture.
The 13th edition of Ta’a Al Shabab Festival will be held at Ta’a Al Shabab’s House on the Pearling Path in Muharraq.
Organised by the Shaikh Ebrahim Bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Centre for Culture and Research, the highly-anticipated 10-day event aims to celebrate the spirit of Bahrain’s youth and their quest for knowledge on culture and traditions.
An opening ceremony will be held today at 7.30pm, where more information about the exhibitions and activities will be announced.
“A range of programmes are held each year and this edition will feature four key initiatives – Darayesh, We All Read, Premier and Tashkeel – to enrich youngsters’ knowledge of culture,” Ta’a Al Shabab co-ordinator Najma Al Sherooqi told the GDN.
There will be a focus on a wide range of cultural pursuits including literature, fine arts, poetry, theatre, art exhibitions, music, architecture, technology, human science and more.
“The festival will include workshops, debates, lectures, musical and theatrical shows, as well as open forums by participating groups to encourage public discourse,” Ms Al Sherooqi said.
‘Darayesh’ aims to increase awareness about architecture and the relationship between people and space. A series of activities including an installation, exhibition and talks will be held as part of this initiative.
‘We All Read’ aims to educate citizens about the importance of reading and will encourage them to practise it through panel discussions. This will feature a poetry night, an exhibition as well as a discussion.
‘Premier’ will shed a spotlight on the art of movie-making and feature a film challenge, where participants will be given 48 hours to create a unique short film. The topic will be announced at the opening ceremony.
An art exhibition will be held as part of Tashkeel that focuses on fine arts as a tool for communication and expression.
Previous Ta’a Al Shabab Festivals staged other initiatives including Operalic, Technique, Hafawa, Jadaliyyat, Dawzana and Tansees. Each initiative educated youngsters on different topics such as theatre, modern technology, legacies of late intellectual luminaries, cultural trends and traditional and digital media.
Launched in 2009, Ta’a Al Shabab aspires to give the cultural movement a strong impetus, as well as introduce youngsters to the country’s cultural experiences that promote the true essence of its people.
The festival, part of Muharraq Nights, will run until December 23.
The GDN earlier reported that 10 nights of cultural events will be held as part of Muharraq Nights festival, organised by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities.
Running everyday between 5pm and 10pm from today until December 23, this year’s festival will include musical events, children’s activities, art and craft workshops, festive markets and more in various venues across the Unesco World Heritage site of the Pearling Path.
