The development of cemetery facilities in Bahrain will be carried out in three phases.
The Sunni Endowments Directorate told our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej that the first phase includes the construction of two big halls with facilities for mourners at a cost of BD600,000. The second phase will include preparing graves and footpaths in a number of cemeteries while the third will include the construction or renovation of boundary walls, lighting and planting trees in cemeteries. The budgets for the second and third phases will be determined later.
The directorate said it follows an annual plan to regularly maintain cemeteries. In the coming phase it will focus on main cemeteries such as Al Hunainiya cemetery in Riffa, Muharraq cemetery, Manama cemetery, Galali cemetery, Budaiya cemetery, Gudaibiya cemetery, Hayyan cemetery in Askar and other cemeteries.
As highlighted earlier this month in the GDN, Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister Nawaf Al Maawda announced the start of development of cemetery facilities in Bahrain.
Mr Al Maawda noted that the ministry would co-ordinate with the Sunni and Jaffari Endowments Directorates to ensure continuous maintenance and cleanliness of the cemeteries, along with providing necessary security measures.
