The funeral of a 10‑year‑old Bahraini boy was held yesterday morning in Barbar, just hours after he tragically passed away in hospital from severe smoke inhalation.
Sayed Al Mahafda had been receiving treatment at Salmaniya Medical Complex after a fire broke out at his family home in Jannusan during the early hours of Sunday.
Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
He was buried at 10am at Barbar Cemetery and condolences were received at the Maatam Al Mahafda last night.
Sayed’s passing marks the second fatality from the house fire, occurring only days after the death of his 16‑year‑old sister Duaa, who also suffered extensive smoke inhalation.
She passed away around 8pm on Sunday despite intensive medical intervention.
The Education Ministry, on behalf of minister Dr Mohammed Juma, released a statement expressing their sorrow at the passing of Sayed and Duaa.
“With profound sorrow and grief, the ministry has received news of the passing of the two students – Duaa, from Saar Secondary School for Girls, and her brother Sayed, from Barbar Primary School for Boys – who tragically lost their lives in a house fire,” the statement said.
“Dr Juma extends his sincere and heartfelt condolences and sympathy to their parents, family, and to all members of their respective schools.
“The ministry affirms its solidarity, along with that of the entire educational community, with their family during these difficult circumstances.”
Janusan Charity Society board of directors also extended its deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to the family, who lost two children in a matter of three days.
