Officials have been urged to continue efforts to combat narcotics at schools, youth centres, sports clubs and cyberspace by raising awareness and promoting collective responsibility.
Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, who is also National Anti-Drug Committee chairman, pointed out that 2,285 drug cases were detected from the beginning of 2023 until mid-2024.
He highlighted security preparedness using modern technologies such as artificial intelligence and stressed the need to reinforce constructive community partnerships to tackle drug abuse.
This came as General Shaikh Rashid met Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science director general Major General Abdulaziz Al Rumaihi, marking International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The minister commended the efforts of the Anti-Narcotics Directorate to enhance performance and commitment to security responsibilities. He thanked the specialised organisations and individuals for their co-operation in the committee’s operations.
He emphasised the positive outcomes of the ‘Ta’afee’ (recovery) programme and the services of the community police through the ‘Ma’an’ (together) programme against violence and addiction.
The minister honoured some of the directorate’s personnel in appreciation for their efforts.
