A reception for the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) Medical University of Bahrain was held at the Bahrain Embassy in London to celebrate the growing success of its alumni community in the UK.
The event, hosted by Bahrain’s Ambassador to the UK Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, was attended by RCSI managing director Stephen Harrison-Mirfield and academic affairs vice-president and Head of the School of Medicine Professor Alfred Nicholson.
They shared key updates on the university’s latest initiatives, including the progress of its new academic building.
“Since its inception in 2004, RCSI has positively contributed to the growing healthcare sector in Bahrain, especially by training world-class health professionals,” said Shaikh Fawaz.
“As we celebrate its 20th anniversary, with a total of 3,312 alumni, among which more than 470 alumni live and work in the UK, we are also celebrating the university’s role in furthering Bahraini-Irish and Bahraini-British, people-to-people relations.”
RCSI president Prof Sameer Otoom extended his thanks to Shaikh Fawaz for hosting the university’s alumni at the embassy and celebrating their career achievements in the UK.
Meanwhile, Mr Harrison-Mirfield said, “RCSI is committed to developing healthcare leaders who make a difference and the career achievements of our alumni in the UK exemplify this commitment. It is incredibly fulfilling to see how much of a meaningful impact on healthcare in the UK, Bahrain and worldwide that our alumni are having.”
The UK is the second top destination after Bahrain for RCSI alumni followed by the US, Kuwait and Canada, with 151 Bahraini alumni residing and working in the UK and 78 alumni from the Class of 2024 securing placements through the UK Foundation Programme.
