Human trafficking, labour rights and the well-being of expatriates in Bahrain were under the spotlight at an awareness event hosted by the Pravasi Legal Cell (PLC) Bahrain Chapter.
The ‘Connecting People’ event was held in collaboration with the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) at the KIMSHEALTH hospital’s auditorium in Umm Al Hassam.
Featured speakers included LMRA’s Partnership and Outreach director Fahad Albinali and other senior staff, IOM Bahrain’s Labour Mobility Unit project co-ordinator Shahlaa Badawy and the unit’s head Erika Broers.
In addition, KIMSHEALTH Bahrain consultant urologist Dr Mahesh Krishnaswamy spoke on the health needs and challenges faced by expatriates, underscoring the importance of healthcare awareness in the community.
PLC Bahrain president Sudheer Thirunilath thanked attendees for their active participation and emphasised the importance of empowering expatriates with information on their rights and responsibilities.
Community members were also invited to submit their queries related to labour rights, anti-trafficking initiatives and LMRA regulations, ensuring a responsive and comprehensive discussion during the session.
The PLC continues to welcome questions and concerns from expatriates via email at pravasilegalcelbahrain@gmail.com or WhatsApp at +973 39461746.
