I read the story about Bahrain Barbie leaving the island published in GulfWeekly and was gutted.
I’ve attended a couple of her shows and she is a powerhouse of talent. I never knew she was such an amazing painter! What a multi-skilled personality she is. The article spoke of her childhood trauma being bullied.
As someone who has faced rude comments from peers at school and college and sometimes even after that, I resonated with her. She has proved the naysayers wrong by pursuing her passions – kudos!
I’ve seen hate comments on her social media posts as well, some poking fun at her dress sense and others at how she looks. It’s a shame that we find ways to discount strong women and it’s often on the basis of their appearance.
Despite this, the artist has continued to shine, which is motivational to me as a fan. I wish her all the success for the next adventure.
