A unique week-long event titled ‘Little Municipalities Village’ will be launched at Oasis Mall, Riffa on Saturday.
The initiative, which targets children, is designed to instill values of environmental stewardship, waste sorting and recycling.
The Southern Municipality, in collaboration with the Southern Municipal Council, is organising the event as part of its ongoing efforts to promote environmental awareness and public cleanliness.
The event will continue until July 18 daily from 4pm to 8pm.
The launch will feature a special appearance by prominent Bahraini actors Khalil Al Romaithi, Bassam Ali and Mohammed Saqr, bringing additional excitement to the event.
It will feature a variety of interactive and educational stations tailored specifically for children.
Activities will include hands-on workshops, entertainment areas, storytelling sessions, informative talks and short environmental awareness films – all aimed at planting the seeds of environmental consciousness in young minds.
Specialised municipal staff will also be on hand to offer simplified explanations of how waste sorting works, the importance of recycling, and how these practices contribute to conserving natural resources and achieving environmental sustainability.
Children will be introduced to the 2019 Public Cleanliness Law in a child-friendly format, highlighting the importance of proper waste disposal, respecting public facilities and avoiding negative behaviours such as littering.
The aim is to cultivate a generation that values cleanliness and takes active responsibility for their environment.
“It’s not just about fun and games – it’s about building future citizens who understand their role in preserving their surroundings,” said Southern Municipal Council Chairman Abdulla Abdullatif.
“Through this initiative, we want children to grow up respecting their environment and understanding the impact of their actions.”
The initiative is further enriched by the participation of various community organisations.
Dar Al Manar for Elderly Care will host a dedicated recycling corner showcasing eco-friendly products, while Nabdhat Hayat (Life Pulse Bahrain) volunteer team and student volunteers from the Gulf University will assist in organising the awareness activities.
“Events like this bring the entire community together,” added Mr Abdullatif.
“By involving artists, NGOs, students and families, we’re creating a collaborative model for environmental education – one that supports our vision of a clean, sustainable and modern urban society.”
The Southern Municipality encourages families across Bahrain to bring their children to participate in the event and take part in building a greener future – one lesson at a time.
