Fauja Singh, a 114-year-old British-Indian man widely believed to be the world's oldest marathon runner, has died in a hit-and-run incident in India.
According to police, Singh was crossing the road in his birth village in Punjab when an unidentified vehicle struck him and sped away. Bystanders took him to a hospital, where he sadly passed away.
"A search is underway, and the accused will be caught soon," said police officer Harvinder Singh.
Singh became popular worldwide by setting multiple records running marathons in several age categories, including one he completed when he was over 100.
After taking up running at the age of 89, Singh had run nine full marathons between 2000 and 2013, the year he retired.
