A NUMBER of Bahraini families, who are on a tourism trip to Russia, gathered in front of the Peterhof Palace to raise the kingdom’s flag.
The palace, known as the ‘Russian Versailles’, is a series of palaces and gardens located in Petergof, Saint Petersburg.
The imperial residence was built in 1714 and is known for its spacious gardens and more than 150 gravity-driven fountains, astonishing visitors with their unique architectural beauty.
The travellers, who expressed pride in representing the kingdom, said that the moment will forever be a precious memory that represents the deep mutual respect and appreciation between the Bahraini and Russian people.
The GDN earlier in the week reported that the Bahraini and Gulf families taking part in the trip got together to prepare and enjoy the traditional Bahraini dish of Ghouzi using fresh Russian meat in a forest near Moscow.
Russian Economic Development Minister Maxim Reshetnikov, during a meeting with Tourism Minster Fatima Al Sairafi last month, highlighted that last year the number of tourists from Bahrain to Russia increased five times compared to 2023, and in the first quarter of this year there were already signs of an increase of another 50 per cent.
He further added that more than 100 hotels have applied for Halal and Muslim-friendly standards to attract tourists from Bahrain and the Middle East.
Russia is getting ready for an increase in tourist traffic with 238,000 new hotel rooms planned to be built (currently there are about one million).
Besides, more than 100 major projects are being implemented in 38 regions of the country, including ski resorts, theme parks and year-round sea complexes.
