BASKETBALL – Bahrain representatives Riffa clinched third place overall in the Montreux 3x3 Volume 4 Quest tournament, played in Montreux, Switzerland.
Riffa were one of 12 teams that competed in the Fiba 3x3 World Tour 2025 event, which acted as a qualifier for the Bucharest Masters, scheduled for November 8 and 9 in Romania.
Riffa took third place after narrowly missing out on the competition’s final. They lost in the last four to Lausanne of Switzerland 16-21, after earlier defeating Como 3x3 from Italy 21-13 in the quarters.
In their first two outings in Pool A of the preliminary round, Riffa outclassed Epalinges of Switzerland 21-7 before beating another Swiss team in Zurich 21-7.
Riffa were represented in the event by Dennis Donkor, Jonas Foerts, Vic van Oosterwyck, and Andrej Cuyvers.
Carolina of Puerto Rico were crowned champions after beating Lausanne 19-15 in the title decider.
Ranked behind Riffa and completing the final classification of teams were Skyliners of Germany, Como 3x3, and Swiss sides Saint-Martin, Casa Polo, Zurich, Montreux, Geneve, Epalinges, and Brick Layers.
The Fiba 3x3 World Tour is the premier street basketball series under the International Basketball Federation (Fiba), which holds events around the world.
Riffa are next set to remain in Switzerland to compete in the Lausanne Masters, scheduled to be held this Friday and Saturday. Masters are top-tier competitions. They have already taken place in Japan, China, the Netherlands, France, Austria, and Mongolia, Hong Kong, and Canada, with remaining events – after Lausanne – in Hungary, China, Macau, and the UAE.
This year’s Fiba 3x3 World Tour then heads to Bahrain for the season-finale, scheduled for November 21 and 22.
