A prestigious college of Islamic studies in Bahrain reinforces the kingdom’s position as a centre of learning and thought, it has been declared.
His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, deputised Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa to inaugurate the new building of the Abdulla Bin Khalid College of Islamic Studies in Riffa yesterday.
The opening ceremony, organised by the Education Ministry, was attended by Royal Court Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Supreme Council for Health chairman Lieutenant General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa and Finance and National Economy Minister Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa.
The Deputy Prime Minister expressed gratitude to His Majesty King Hamad for naming several government facilities, including the College of Islamic Studies, after the late Shaikh Abdulla bin Khalid Al Khalifa, in recognition of his contributions to the kingdom and Islam, his dedication to spreading religious knowledge, promoting authentic Islamic values, defending national principles and enhancing Bahrain’s presence in academic and intellectual forums.
He said that HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister’s patronage of the college’s inauguration reflects the commitment to supporting education and higher education institutions in all domains, recognising their role in developing well educated Bahrainis rooted in their faith and national identity.
He described the new building as a milestone for the college, showing the government’s commitment to providing modern learning environments equipped with advanced facilities and technology to give students and staff greater opportunities for creativity and research.
He highlighted the college’s role in producing graduates with deep knowledge of Islamic studies who can also meet modern needs, while promoting moderation, tolerance and dialogue as well as reinforcing national unity.
He also commended the efforts of the college’s board of trustees, chaired by Education Minister Dr Mohammed Mubarak Juma, urging students to make the most of the college’s advanced facilities and strong academic programmes.
Dr Juma delivered a speech in which he underlined that the education sector continues to receive support under the leadership of His Majesty, and that the government is committed to ongoing development in implementation of the directives of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
Dr Juma highlighted the late Shaikh Abdulla bin Khalid Al Khalifa’s national contributions and emphasised that the college reinforced Bahrain’s position as a centre of learning and thought.
