Some people leave an unforgettable imprint on our lives – not only through their actions, but also through the qualities they embody and the humanity they radiate.
Kuwaiti ambassador Shaikh Thamer Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah is one such rare figure whose departure leaves behind a void.
From the day he arrived in Bahrain, he carried with him a heart full of kindness, a genuine smile that preceded his words, and a humility that made everyone feel they had known him for years.
He was not merely a diplomat; he was a man of the people – asking after their well-being, sharing in their joys and sorrows, and seeking goodness in every encounter, without pretence or self-promotion.
I rejoiced in his success and recognition, as he moved on to new responsibilities worthy of his dedication and service. Yet, I could not help but feel sorrow, for I, like many others, will deeply miss his warm presence among us – a presence that turned diplomacy into a bridge of friendship long before it was a channel of politics.
His role in Bahrain went far beyond official functions. He was a familiar face in local gatherings and social events as much as in diplomatic meetings.
He skilfully wove bonds of affection between the Bahraini and Kuwaiti people, leaving behind treasured memories of a man who combined authenticity with simplicity, and strength with compassion, in equal measure.
He stood as a model diplomat: one who served his nation with loyalty, elevated its name, and left an imprint on people’s hearts that time cannot erase.
With his departure from Bahrain, his memory remains a living testament to what noble character can achieve when joined with true professionalism.
I recall vividly his response when I once wrote an article criticising the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior for the unprofessional behaviour of a border officer. Shaikh Thamer took it upon himself to call me personally, seeking details with complete transparency, despite not knowing me at all. To my astonishment, he apologised several times during the call, leaving me humbled. He assured me that he would personally follow up, and indeed a senior official from the ministry later contacted me to record my account in full.
Equally unforgettable was his gesture when I invited him to the launch of my book The Spirit of Law. Although he was in Kuwait at the time and could not attend, he insisted on welcoming me at his office on his very first day back at work. His warm reception, encouragement and support remain with me to this day, inspiring me to continue writing meaningful articles that serve society and address its challenges.
Farewell, Ambassador of Hearts.
All of Bahrain will remember you with love and gratitude. We wish you every success in your next mission.
