Albania has appointed the world's first AI-bot minister in an effort to combat corruption.
Represented by a female avatar named Diella (meaning 'sun' in Albanian), the AI-bot minister was introduced as a cabinet member by Prime Minister Edi Rama.
Rama emphasised that combating corruption was at the forefront of the decision, stating: 'Not only will we wipe out every potential influence on public tenders – we will also make the process much faster, much more efficient and totally accountable.'
He insists that it is more than just a glorified chatbot, even though its role before its 'appointment' was as an AI-powered virtual assistant guiding applicants through the process of obtaining official documents.
Reactions to Diella's ascension have been mixed. Many from opposition parties are labelling the initiative as 'ridiculous' and 'unconstitutional,' as she cannot officially be a government minister since she is not a citizen and is only four days old, failing to meet the required age of 18 years.
