A 95-year-old woman with dementia was arrested on Tuesday in the US after she allegedly beat a fellow nursing home resident to death with a metal wheelchair piece.
New York resident Galina Smirnova allegedly struck 89-year-old Nina Kravtsov in the head multiple times after a feud erupted on Sunday at the Seagate Rehabilitation and Nursing Centre, according to authorities.
According to police officials, Kravtsov was discovered lying unconscious in bed with a bleeding head wound and was rushed to the hospital, where she was initially listed in critical condition but later succumbed to her wounds.
The nonagenarian suspect was subjected to a physical and psychiatric evaluation after the incident, as she reportedly has dementia.
Smirnova has now been charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon, according to police.
