Bahrain and Japan have announced the elevation of their bilateral relationship from a comprehensive partnership to a strategic partnership, following a key meeting in Tokyo between His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and Japanese Premier Shigeru Ishiba.
The meeting took place yesterday as part of HRH Crown Prince and Prime Minister’s official visit to Japan.
The new partnership will see both countries strengthening collaboration across vital sectors, including economy, trade, investment, science and technology, energy, space, digital transformation and healthcare.
It will also focus on enhancing commercial exchange and commencing direct flights between the two nations.
Furthermore, the move is aimed at enhancing political and diplomatic co-operation, including closer collaboration on regional and international issues.
During the meeting with Prime Minister Ishiba, HRH Prince Salman highlighted the strength of relations between Bahrain and Japan, which continues to grow in line with the support of both His Majesty King Hamad and Emperor Naruhito.
HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister affirmed that the advanced strategic partnership between Bahrain and Japan would open new horizons in bilateral ties. He noted the kingdom’s commitment to further bolstering relations to unlock new and mutually beneficial opportunities.
He commended the successful organisation of Expo 2025 Osaka and the events it has hosted, which showcased innovative solutions and addressed global challenges, contributing to the pursuit of a more sustainable and prosperous future.
He highlighted the importance of all countries’ participation through their national pavilions, which reflect the latest advancements across diverse fields.
Such contributions underscore the significance of this global exhibition as a platform for fostering excellence and driving international sustainable development, he said.
Following the meeting, Bahrain and Japan signed agreements in aerospace, human resources management, e-government and digital transformation and direct flight services.
