Bahrain remains committed to peaceful solutions to conflicts, particularly in the Middle East, Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani has said.
Delivering Bahrain’s statement at the United Nations General Assembly yesterday, he also reiterated the kingdom’s commitment to consolidating its strategic partnership with the UN to achieve collective aspirations for peace, security and sustainable prosperity.
He expressed Bahrain’s pride that the work of this session coincides with the kingdom’s election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2026-2027 term.
“My country also looks forward to hosting the forthcoming GCC Summit this December, thereby reinforcing its role as a key partner in advancing regional and international peace, security and coexistence, within stable, sustainable and prosperous societies.”
The Foreign Minister underlined that Bahrain’s vision is rooted in its historical and civilisational heritage, human values and balanced diplomatic approach, in full alignment with the principles of the UN Charter and international law.
Dr Al Zayani called for a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the protection of civilians and the release of hostages and detainees.
He stressed the need to expedite humanitarian aid and the implementation of the Arab and Islamic plan for recovery and reconstruction in the Strip.
Bahrain calls for negotiations and diplomatic solutions as the path to resolving the Palestinian issue in line with international law and the UN Charter, the minister said.
Dr Al Zayani urged the international community to respond to the initiative endorsed by the 33rd Arab Summit – the ‘Bahrain Summit’ – to convene an international peace conference in the Middle East, leading to a comprehensive and sustainable settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict through direct negotiations.
He affirmed Bahrain’s commitment, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad and with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to strengthening multilateral co-operation, upholding international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter.
