I WOULD like to point out an important issue regarding the Norka (Non-Resident Keralites Affairs) Care Insurance Scheme.
While the scheme provides valuable support to non-resident Keralites (NRKs), it has come to our notice that it does not currently cover natural causes of death, such as heart attack, stroke or other medical conditions, especially when a death occurs outside India.
A large number of NRKs live and work abroad, often far from their families and under stressful conditions. In such unfortunate events of natural death, families are left with emotional distress and significant financial burdens, especially with the costs involved in repatriation and related formalities.
Therefore, I kindly request Norka to consider including coverage for natural death under the Norka Care Insurance Scheme, regardless of whether the death occurs in India or abroad. This would offer better protection and peace of mind to NRKs and their families, and further strengthen the trust and support between Norka and the expatriate community.
We suggest a coverage of at least Rs300,000 for normal death under the scheme, in support of the family.
