Bahrain’s commitment to advancing its energy sector through decarbonisation and talent development was highlighted at the inauguration of the International Downstream Conference and Exhibition (IDCE 2025) yesterday.
The event, held under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, kicked off at Exhibition World Bahrain with more than 5,000 global experts and officials in attendance.
Oil and Environment Minister and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs Dr Mohammed Bin Daina stressed that the conference, themed ‘Energy Innovation... Creating Sustainable Value,’ would prioritise the transition to a sustainable future.
The minister emphasised that sessions are designed to tackle “key industry challenges” including flexibility and decarbonisation, alongside the role of modern technology in boosting refinery efficiency and global energy implications.
Dr Bin Daina also highlighted that Bahrain’s commitment to the sector is driven by His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Bapco Energy chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, whose efforts are pushing strategic development and innovation projects to strengthen the kingdom’s manufacturing and energy position.
Furthermore, the minister said that empowering national talent to actively lead energy and industrial projects is crucial for establishing a solid knowledge base and ensuring the sector’s long-term sustainability and regional competitiveness.
He described the conference, organised by the Gulf Downstream Association (GDA), as a high-level platform for exchanging expertise and driving economic diversification across the GCC.
The IDCE 2025 runs until tomorrow and is accompanied by an exhibition showcasing technical solutions and wide participation from leading regional and international downstream companies.
