Electronic items, clothes, shoes, fruit and vegetables were seized during raids on street vendors in Manama and Gudaibiya.
The Capital Municipality yesterday posted photographs on its social media of cleaners deployed in the areas to clear the makeshift stalls selling various products to workers, including food items sold in the open flouting safety and hygiene regulations.
Councillors in the past have called for year-round inspections across the four governorates to combat makeshift markets operated by undocumented expatriates who regularly block public footpaths and steal business from small and legitimate traders.
