SWIMMING – BAHRAIN’S Miron Boldovskii narrowly missed out on a medal in the boys’ 50 metres breaststroke final last night on the concluding day of swimming competitions in the third Asian Youth Games.
Boldovskii completed his race, held at Khalifa Sports City’s Olympic-sized pool in Isa Town, in 29.12 seconds – just 0.88s behind gold-medallist Yik Ki Tsui from Hong Kong, who triumphed in 28.24s. Zavv Lee from Singapore took silver 0.29s behind the victor, while Jun Hyun from South Korea claimed the bronze 0.77s adrift.
Earlier, in the first-round heats, Boldovskii was fourth-quickest amongst 38 competitors across five races. He clocked the fourth-best time of 29.17s to qualify for the medal round.
Also yesterday, China secured three gold medals. Yutong Shou triumphed in the girls’ 200m butterfly, compatriot Yihan Chen won the girls’ 200m individual medley, and the quartet of Shiqi Ji, Yushuguang He, Zhiyu Zhang, and Fuzhen Yang clinched gold in the mixed 4x100m freestyle.
Others to strike gold in swimming’s final day were Wui Kiu Man from Hong Kong in the girls’ 50m breaststroke, Mohammadmahdi Gholami from Iran in the boys’ 200m butterfly, and Inseo Lee in the boys’ 200m individual medley.
