BOXING – BAHRAIN’S Royal Guard boxing team will be taking on their counterparts from the British Army this evening in the third edition of International Boxing Night in England.
The event will be held at the Infantry Training Centre (ITC) in Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire.
Six of the kingdom’s top Royal Guard boxers are set to feature in the event, along with fighters from the British Army, the British Army’s development and modernisation efforts, the British Army’s Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment/ITC Catterick, and the British Army’s Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.
Private Mohamed Mehdi Sahak will be first to step into the ring for Bahrain’s Royal Guard when he faces British Army boxer Craftsman Kiminski in a 57kg bout. Lance Corporal Prakash Limbu will take on Lance Corporal Moulds in a 63.5kg contest.
Sergeant Maryam Khamis will go up against Corporal Johnstone in a women’s 55kg bout, while Private Abdullah Alabdullah will take on Private Swales in a 67kg affair.
Private Israel Okafor will then trade jabs with Lance Corporal Lorja in a 92kg bout, and finally Private Isaac Augustine will face off with Guardsman Young-Hastings in an over-92kg contest.
Three other bouts between British Army boxers are scheduled for this evening.
Bahrain’s delegation is being guided in the event by Royal Guard head of boxing Tony Davis and national team coach Fethi Missaoui.
This year’s edition of International Boxing Night follows the previous event held in November of last year, when the Royal Guard won six of the eight bouts held as part of an exciting fight card. In the inaugural edition of the event held in 2023, the kingdom’s representatives won just two of eight fights.
International Boxing Night will be raising the excitement ahead of the highly anticipated Royal Rumble IV, the kingdom’s most popular charity boxing event, which is set to take place on November 27 at Crowne Plaza Bahrain.
The black-tie affair will see Bahrain’s Royal Guard fighters lace up their gloves against boxers from the British Armed Forces.
Royal Rumble IV will be held under the patronage of Supreme Council for Youth and Sport first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and proceeds generated will be donated to the Royal Humanitarian Foundation.
