A businessman in India brutally murdered his wife and got rid of her body in a gruesome plot he allegedly hatched after studying murder mysteries.
The 45-year-old resident of Pune in Maharashtra state allegedly strangled his wife, burnt her remains and got rid of the evidence.
The chilling crime was uncovered after he reported his spouse missing to the police, who noticed inconsistencies in his statement.
Authorities revealed that the man suspected his wife of infidelity and decided to murder her after attempting to end their relationship.
He reportedly watched several murder mystery films and true-crime television shows for a month to concoct his plan.
Inspector Nilesh Badakh from the Warje Malwadi police told Times Of India newspaper that the suspect then rented a warehouse, out of site from the main road, built an iron box and purchased two bags of firewood, which he stored at the site.
On October 26, he invited his wife on a drive with him under the pretext of making amends.
He drove her to the isolated warehouse, strangled her in the car and burnt her body inside the iron box. He later disposed the ashes in a river, and sold the iron box to a scrap metal dealer.
He returned to his home and filed a missing person’s report two days after the alleged crime.
Officials noticed inconsistences in his account during his repeated visits to the police station, who upon verifying CCTV footage and call record details, uncovered the man’s plot.
He confessed to the murder during questioning and authorities have placed him under arrest.
