Under the global theme “Diabetes and Well-being”, this year’s World Diabetes Day 2025, which is being marked today, focuses on “Diabetes and the Workplace”.
It is a reminder that health is not shaped only in clinics – it is also shaped in the places where we live, work and spend most of our time.
For many people living with diabetes, the workplace can be a daily challenge. Long hours, stress, skipped meals and limited physical activity can quietly worsen glucose control and overall well-being.
But with understanding and flexibility, a workplace can also become a place of healing and support.
A simple policy – allowing time for regular meals, encouraging physical activity or ensuring access to medical follow-up – can make a measurable difference in blood sugar control and quality of life.
When employers show care, and colleagues show understanding, they create a healthier, more productive community for everyone.
Bahrain continues to advance in diabetes prevention and care through screening programmes, modern treatments and national awareness initiatives. Yet, genuine progress requires more than medication. It depends on shared responsibility – between healthcare professionals, workplaces and society.
Living with diabetes should never mean living with limitation.
With the right care and a supportive environment, every person with diabetes can live well – at work, at home, and beyond.
On this World Diabetes Day, let us remember: A healthy workplace builds a healthy nation.
