Bahrain Chamber launched yesterday the Industrial Localisation Opportunities – Made in Bahrain forum, which aims to strengthen co-operation between major factories and small and medium-sized enterprises by showcasing the needs of large manufacturers for products and spare parts that can be produced locally.
The initiative seeks to enhance national supply chains, reduce reliance on imports, transfer industrial knowledge, build local capabilities, and achieve the desired industrial sustainability.
Industry and Commerce Minister Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro affirmed that the forum embodies one of the ministry’s most important strategic priorities, which is promoting industrial localisation and increasing local content in a way that helps build a stronger and more sustainable economy.
“The industrial sector in Bahrain has witnessed remarkable progress thanks to the continuous support of His Majesty King Hamad and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister,” he said.
“The aim is to promote an industrial environment capable of production, innovation and generating national value,” he added, pointing out that Bahrain’s participation in the integrated industrial partnership for sustainable economic development has strengthened the presence of locally manufactured products in regional markets.
Bahrain Chamber chairman Samir Nass said that the event represents an important milestone in the chamber’s efforts to support industrial development and create promising investment opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises by linking them with major factories.
Farid Bader, the chamber’s industry committee chairman, emphasised that this event is the result of year-long efforts.
A study conducted in preparation for the forum showed that roughly $2 billion worth of spare parts are imported into Bahrain.
Alba chief executive officer Ali Al Baqali said, “Today, an agreement was signed between Alba and two Bahraini manufacturers – Al Jisr and Amiri Industry. This agreement enhances the efficiency of Bahrain’s industrial sector and provides an opportunity for these manufacturers to begin producing key components, enabling them to supply their products to Alba.”
