Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani has affirmed Bahrain’s commitment to strengthening multilateral co-operation, constructive dialogue, and international solidarity in building a more just and inclusive global system.
He emphasised that consolidating regional and international peace and security remains a fundamental pillar of the kingdom’s wise diplomatic approach, led by His Majesty King Hamad, and guided by the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
Marking International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace, observed annually on April 24, the minister expressed pride in the pioneering role of Bahraini diplomacy, rooted in a rich history and noble humanitarian values.
He highlighted Bahrain’s active contributions to promoting security and stability, advancing tolerance and coexistence, resolving conflicts through peaceful means, and supporting sustainable development regionally and globally.
The minister underscored the kingdom’s commitment to advancing multilateral co-operation in support of peace, security, and prosperity within a more equitable international system that respects human dignity.
He noted that this commitment is reflected in Bahrain’s presidency of the United Nations Security Council this month, as part of its non-permanent membership for the 2026-2027 term, as well as its current presidency of the GCC and its chairmanship of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level, in addition to its active engagement in regional and international organisations.
Bahrain reaffirmed its steadfast support for efforts to achieve comprehensive and lasting peaceful solutions to conflicts, foremost among them the Palestinian issue.
It highlighted the key initiatives endorsed at the 33rd Arab Summit (Bahrain Summit), including the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the two-state solution and support for its full United Nations membership.
The kingdom also reiterated its commitment to providing educational and healthcare services to those affected by conflicts.
Furthermore, it expressed support for the outcomes of the first meeting of the Peace Council, chaired by US President Donald Trump, aimed at ending the war in the Gaza Strip, advancing early recovery and reconstruction, and paving the way for political negotiations toward a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace in the Middle East, in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2803.
Dr Al Zayani commended the international community’s response to Bahrain’s proactive diplomatic efforts, which led to the condemnation of Iran’s unjustified attacks against Bahrain, GCC states and Jordan.
This condemnation was reflected in Security Council Resolution 2817, sponsored by 136 countries, as well as a Human Rights Council resolution adopted unanimously with the support of 115 countries.
Both resolutions called on Iran to adhere to international law and the principles of good neighbourliness, respect the sovereignty of Arab states, refrain from interference in their internal affairs, ensure the safety and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and other vital waterways, cease support for proxy groups and terrorist militias, and avoid actions that threaten regional and global security and stability.
On this international occasion, the minister expressed his sincere appreciation to all members of the Foreign Ministry and Bahrain’s diplomatic and consular missions abroad for their dedicated efforts as part of ‘Team Bahrain’ in promoting the kingdom’s message of peace, tolerance, coexistence, and service to humanity.
He highlighted their role in strengthening constructive co-operation with sisterly and friendly countries, as well as regional and international organisations, including through the activation of the Strategic Partnership Framework for Sustainable Development with United Nations agencies for the period 2025-2029.
He reaffirmed that Bahrain, under the leadership of the King and the guidance of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, will continue to serve as an active and responsible partner in advancing multilateral action.
He emphasised Bahrain’s commitment to dialogue, negotiation and diplomatic solutions, as well as to strengthening human solidarity in pursuit of the aspirations of people everywhere for security, stability, peace, sustainable development and shared prosperity.
