TENNIS – Northern Mariana Islands and Turkmenistan both punched their tickets to Asia/Oceania Group IV in next year’s edition of the Davis Cup.
The two teams won promotion from this year’s Asia/Oceania Group V tournament hosted by the kingdom after winning their respective match-ups yesterday on the concluding day of play at the Bahrain Tennis Federation (BTF) courts in Isa Town.
Northern Mariana Islands defeated the Maldives 2-0 in their promotional play-off, while Turkmenistan beat Guam 3-0 in their head-to-head.
In other matches yesterday, the UAE beat Yemen 2-1 to claim fifth place overall, Bahrain overcame Mongolia 2-1 to finish seventh, Laos defeated Tajikistan 2-1 to take ninth, Myanmar beat Bangladesh 2-0 to finish 11th, and Macau outplayed Brunei 2-0 to take 13th place.
Following all the action, BTF vice-president Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa presented commemorative medals to the two teams.
