FOOTBALL – AL Ahli were held to a 1-1 draw by bottom-ranked Malkiya last night as matchweek six wrapped up in the 2026-27 Nasser Bin Hamad Bahrain Premier Football League.
Hashem Sayed Issa made up for a missed penalty early in the match by putting Ahli in front with a goal in the 29th minute at the National Stadium in Riffa. He tapped in off a rebound after the shot of French teammate Bilel Aouacheria from outside the box was stopped by Malkiya custodian Sayed Ali Husain, who could not control the ball and Issa pounced.
But Malkiya drew level in the 76th minute after Nigerian striker Ossy Martin Eugene took advantage of some careless play from Ahli to slot home from close range.
With the result, Ahli improved to eight points mid-table while Malkiya stayed bottom but improved to two.
In another fixture yesterday at Al Ahli Club Stadium in Mahooz, Manama and 10-man Hidd played to a 1-1 stalemate.
Manama took the lead in the 14th minute when Rivaldo Boaventua Morais hit a stunning volley from distance that flew into the net. But Hidd drew level late on when Jordanian Bara Sami Marie headed in from close range with only two minutes left in regular time.
Hidd had to play several minutes of second-half injury time down a man after substitute Ali Alsharqawi was shown a direct red card for a foul against Manama’s Yunes Moosa Hasan.
Even with a share of the points, Hidd stayed in 10th and 11th on the 12-team standings with six points apiece.
