A JOINT military exercise showcased historic relations between Bahrain and the UAE, under the proud gaze of its leaders.
His Majesty King Hamad, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and UAE President and Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan attended the exercise, Rabdan Shoyman, and were briefed on its objectives and proceedings yesterday.
It featured the participation of the Hamad Bin Isa Airborne Brigade from the UAE Presidential Guard and their counterparts from the Royal Guard of the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF).
Upon arrival, His Majesty and the UAE President were received by BDF Commander-in-Chief Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, National Security Adviser, Royal Guard Commander and Supreme Defence Council Secretary General Lieutenant General Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the director of the exercise and senior officers from both nations.
Both leaders commended the professionalism and dedication of the armed forces taking part in the exercise.
The King ordered the naming of a Royal Bahraini Air Force squadron as ‘Mohammed Bin Zayed Squadron’ in recognition of the UAE President’s role in supporting the long-standing relations between the two nations.
Shaikh Mohammed expressed gratitude to His Majesty for this gesture, emphasising that it reflected the strong historic bond.
The King thanked Lt Gen Shaikh Nasser for his dedicated efforts to enhance the combat readiness of the Royal Guard personnel, noting that they and all members of the BDF remain a source of pride.
His Majesty then conferred the Medal of Efficiency on several participants from the UAE Presidential Guard’s Hamad Bin Isa Airborne Brigade, including: Major General Ali Saif Al Kaabi, Major General Awadh Saeed Al Ahbabi, Brigadier General Yaqoub Yousef Al Ali, Brigadier General Ahmed Ali Al Shehhi and Brigadier General Saeed Khamis Al Yamahi.
Lt Gen Shaikh Nasser also presented commemorative gifts to the UAE President.
The exercise concluded with a commemorative photo session with His Majesty and Shaikh Mohammed, as aircraft from the Mohammed Bin Zayed Squadron flew past in salute.
His Majesty hosted a luncheon at Sakhir Palace in honour of Shaikh Mohammed, which was attended by the sons of His Majesty and senior officials.
The King later bid farewell to the UAE leader.
