A 44-year-old Bahraini man has been sentenced to life in prison for the premeditated attempted murder of his wife in Sitra.
The defendant attacked his wife with a knife in the street, stabbing her in the chest and shoulder. The attack occurred in front of their 13-year-old son, who bravely tried to intervene.
Residents of the Kharijiya neighbourhood saved the victim's life by physically stopping the assailant and providing her shelter and first aid until emergency services arrived.
The court heard that the defendant had planned the killing in advance, even attempting to run her over the previous day and trying to set her car on fire with fuel just before the stabbing.
The victim required life-saving surgery and intensive care for internal bleeding and lung injuries. She was awarded BD5,001 in temporary compensation.
The court noted the defendant’s extensive criminal record, which includes previous convictions for domestic violence, child abuse, and sexual harassment.
