Preparations are in full swing to tackle possible flooding and water-logging during the upcoming rainy season in Bahrain.
Northern Municipality’s director-general Lamya Al Fadhala led a tour of key water-collection sites across the Northern Governorate yesterday, reviewing operational readiness and ensuring teams are fully equipped to respond to any emergency.
“The safety of residents and the continuity of municipal services are our top priorities during the rainy season,” Ms Al Fadhala said.
“We are enhancing the readiness of our technical and field teams, and strengthening co-ordination between departments to ensure a swift and effective response to any reported incidents.
“We also aim to implement sustainable solutions to address recurring water accumulation in specific areas.”
The inspection comes ahead of a weather alert for scattered rainfall this weekend in Bahrain.
The temperature is expected to range between 18C and 27C, with showers accompanied by variable winds of five to 10 knots.
Ms Al Fadhala yesterday assessed the availability of tankers to drain water, supporting machinery, and rapid-response equipment.
She also emphasised the municipality’s proactive approach, which aims to reduce the impact of flooding, maintain smooth traffic flow and implement long-term fixes in areas prone to waterlogging.
The official also visited the municipality’s emergency operations centre, reviewing its 24-hour reporting and response system.
Teams demonstrated their operational readiness, explaining the deployment of mobile pumps, water suction tanks and other rapid-intervention equipment, while highlighting continuous co-ordination with field teams across all districts.
“The emergency operations centre is the backbone of our rainy-season management,” Ms Al Fadhala noted.
“It ensures swift action by directing technical teams immediately to affected areas.
“I commend the dedication of our field and technical staff, whose efforts are crucial to safeguarding residents and mitigating the effects of water accumulation.”
Ms Al Fadhala also called on residents to assist municipal efforts by reporting flooding or waterlogged areas promptly and by avoiding littering in streets or drainage inlets, which can hinder drainage efficiency and exacerbate flooding risks.
Officials from the Southern Municipality also conducted an inspection yesterday and have formed a 24-hour Rainwater Emergency Response Team.
It includes officials from different ministries to ensure rapid intervention, rainwater management and deal with water accumulation in residential and commercial areas in the Southern Governorate.
Southern Municipality director general Isa Al Buainain, accompanied by Southern Municipal Council chairman Abdulla Abdullatif, visited several areas in their governorate that are prone to water logging after rains.
The municipalities’ early inspections and co-ordinated response plans reflect their commitment to strengthening infrastructure resilience and improving service delivery, ensuring that public facilities and communities are protected during periods of heavy rainfall.
“Through early preparedness, continuous monitoring, and effective emergency co-ordination, we aim to provide residents with the highest level of service while reducing potential disruptions caused by seasonal rains,” Ms Al Fadhala added.
