A bill has been drafted by MP Mariam Al Sayegh to amend the Social Insurance Law with the aim of lowering the retirement age for women working in the private sector to 50, provided they have at least 180 months of insurance contributions. This contrasts with the current law, which sets the retirement age for women at 60 with a minimum of 240 months of contributions.
In the explanatory memorandum, a copy of which was obtained by our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej, Ms Al Sayegh said her proposal reflects commitment to strengthening the role of Bahraini women in society and supporting their ability to balance family and work responsibilities.
