Acting in cooperation with the Directorate General of Inquires and Criminal Investigations, the Police Command of Muscat Governorate arrested two tourists of European nationalities after a report of theft of jewellery worth about RO 1 million (BD 980,000).
The suspects, accused of carrying out an organised robbery from a jewellery store in the Muscat Governorate, reportedly arrived in the Sultanate of Oman with a tourist visa and stayed in a hotel near the jewellery stores in the Al Ghubra area to explore the area and plan the robbery.
The crime report states that, at 4 am on robbery day, the suspects broke into the back wall of the store using a mechanical demolition tool, seized the jewellery, opened the safe and stole the cash saved therein.
The inquiry led to the arrest of the accused, the location of the crime tools and the recovery of the jewellery that was found hidden on the beach of the A’Sifah area after being transported there by boat.
