A man in Thailand has been arrested after allegedly stealing a teenager’s smartphone. In a bizarre twist, the suspect, a fortune teller, had prophesied that the victim would "lose a valuable possession" just moments before he allegedly thieved it from her.
On January 1, a 19-year-old woman visited a fortune teller at a temple in Pattaya. During the session, the man warned her that she was on the brink of great misfortune and would soon lose something valuable. He then urged her to pay an additional fee to perform a ritual to "avert the bad luck."
The teenager declined and ended the session. She soon noticed her phone was missing. She returned to the temple to confront the fortune teller, who brazenly insisted that the loss simply proved the accuracy of his prediction. He even went as far as providing a detailed description of what the "thief" looked like.
Unconvinced, the victim sought help from nearby bystanders and temple staff. Shortly thereafter, the missing phone was reportedly discovered hidden inside the fortune teller’s bag.
The suspect was handed over to the police, where he allegedly admitted to stealing the device to fund his New Year's celebrations. He reportedly pleaded with the teenager not to press charges.
