An Indian woman, who is seven months pregnant, is recovering after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Dubai’s Arjan neighbourhood.
Aastha Kanwar and her husband, Ojasvi Gautham, were out for an evening walk when a driver reportedly entered a one-way street from the wrong direction, Khaleej Times reported. According to the couple, the motorist abruptly reversed and then accelerated into them before speeding away from the scene.
Aastha, who was 34 weeks pregnant, bore the brunt of the impact and was flung into the air. She was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries and underwent emergency surgery to ensure the safety of her unborn child. Remarkably, both mother and baby survived the ordeal.
Dubai Police have launched an investigation into the incident. The driver remains at large.
