GOLF – ABDULLA Saeed Al Kaabi played a near perfect round to emerge as overall winner while Nasser Yaqoob Saleh claimed the medal in the Corona Classic played at Awali Golf Club.
Al Kaabi had a masterful performance in the competition, making no less than 17 pars. The only slight blemish was a bogey on the course’s most difficult hole, the seventh.
Playing off a five handicap, he shot a net 66, which was just enough to edge out James Williamson on countback for the overall win.
Williamson also had a great round and was on his way to crush the 80 barrier, until the course hit back at him.
Al Kaabi nearly got his hands on the medal as well, however Saleh managed to play one shot better and won with a 70 gross.
Saleh was also first in division one with a net 70. He edged out Adel Ali Al Fayyadh, who was the runner-up with a net 71.
Williamson took division two with his net 66 score, while in second with a net 70 was Benedikt Schwerm.
CV Murthy took division three with a net 69, while Paul McLean was second with a net 70.
Following play, the winners were handed their prizes by Awali Golf Club captain Steve Newall and tournament director Balbir Singh.
