CRICKET – Abraj Super Kings and MJ Yodhas were both triumphant yesterday on the latest matchday of the sixth season in the Abraj Premier League (APL6).
Super Kings won against Abraj Rocking Royals while MJ Yodhas beat SuperGiants 2.0.
In the Super Kings’ win, they won the toss and chose to field first. Rocking Royals were bowled out for 131 in 20 overs, with their innings anchored by Vignesh Us, who remained not out on 21 from 15 balls. Akhil Jain contributed 16 and Ashwani Pratap added a quick 12.
However, regular wickets prevented Rocking Royals from building strong partnerships. Super Kings captain Sushant Khar led from the front with the ball, taking three wickets for 21 runs, supported well by Ankesh’s two for nine and Viral and Tarun, who each took one wicket.
In reply, Super Kings chased down the target with 133 for six in 19.4 overs. The standout performer was Tarun Parihar, who played a decisive unbeaten knock of 31 off 19 balls, striking three fours and a six at a strike rate of over 160. Sushant Khar also contributed an unbeaten 12 to guide the team home.
Despite disciplined bowling spells from Anil Verma (two for 13) and Sagar Dholaria, Vignesh, and Ashwani who each took one wicket, Rocking Royals could not defend their total.
Super Kings secured a comfortable four-wicket victory, strengthening their position in the league standings.
John Britoo rose to the occasion with a commanding, match-winning display that turned the game in his team’s favour. His exceptional all-round brilliance set him apart, earning him the well-deserved Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the match honour.
Meanwhile, SuperGiants 2.0 posted 155 for seven after electing to bat against MJ Yodhas. They were led by captain Sanito Dsilva’s unbeaten 56 off 32 and a quickfire 43 off 20 from Vinod Rathi. For MJ Yodhas, Collin Dsilva and Pankaj Kherajani took two wickets each.
MJ Yodhas then chased the target comfortably, reaching 156 for four in 18.1 overs. Ajay P finished the game with an unbeaten 34 off 19, supported by brisk knocks from Pankaj Kherajani (24 off 11), Amit Maity (22), and Deepak Bhakuni (22).
MJ Yodhas won by six wickets, with Kherajani being named MVP for his all-round performance.
